HSE Information & FAQs
What is HSE?
HSE (High School Equivalency) classes are offered at no-charge to increase educational skills & prepare students to take an official High School Equivalency exam.
At GAEC, we offer GED test administration. GED is accredited and approved by the state of Mississippi, meaning that once a student officially passes all parts of the GED exam, he/she will receive a Mississippi High School Equivalency Diploma.
Total Transcript
TotalTranscript® allows individuals who have previously taken portions of the GED®, HiSET®, or TASC™ assessments to combine test scores in order to earn a High School Equivalency (HSE) Diploma. Prior to TotalTranscript®, students were required to take and pass the entire battery of individual tests in order to earn an HSE Diploma.
To better align with the Mississippi Department of Education and the community college system, on January 17, 2025, the Office of Adult Education included ACT® WorkKeys® Applied Mathematics and Workplace Documents as additional options for students to obtain the Mississippi High School Equivalency Diploma through TotalTranscript®.
How long is the official GED test?
The official GED test is broken down into 4 different subtests:
- Reasoning through Language Arts
- Math
- Science
- Social Studies
In addition to attending regular GED classes, students will also be provided with opportunities to take practice tests. Practice tests can be taken at www.GED.com. The normal cost for a practice test is $6; however, we do cover this cost for students enrolled in our program.
